Sabers drop series to Fresno

The USPHL San Diego Sabers traveled to Fresno for a three-game series against the Fresno Monsters where they began the series on Thursday. Mario Paganini opened the series with 2 goals in the first period. The Monsters then responded with 2 goals in each of the next two periods in which the Sabers found themselves down 4-2. Kaleb Miller and Ulric Martel would not allow them to go out without a fight by each scoring a goal and sending the game to overtime tied at 4. The late rally was cut short by a Monsters goal with 30 seconds left in overtime.

Friday saw a disappointed team, looking for the win that they nearly had the night before. After a scoreless first period, the Monsters scored 4 goals in the second period and added another 3 goals in the third period while the Sabers had no answer. The Sabers were defeated 7-0 in a heartbreaking Friday night.

Saturday saw yet another disappointed team desperate for a win, the Sabers had deja vu as the Monsters scored 2 goals with an additional goal early in the second to take a 3-0 lead. The Sabers responded in the third with goals from their top scorers Mario Paganini and Michal Novak however the comeback fell short as they ultimately lost 2-3.

The Sabers return to the ice on Fri. December 2 when they welcome the Bakersfield Roughnecks to Carlsbad as they look to return to the win column during a three-game series.
