Sabers Defeat Seattle Totems, Finish 4-0 at 2023 USPHL Las Vegas Showcase

The San Diego Sabers showcased their prowess on the ice as they completed an impressive undefeated (4-0) run at the 2023 USPHL Las Vegas Showcase, culminating in a decisive 3-1 victory over the Seattle Totems and extending their winning streak to 6.

The first period set the tone for the Sabers' triumph, with forward Litzinger netting a goal at 17:28, assisted by Paganini and Ouellet. The period saw disciplined play from both teams, with the only penalty going against Wolynec of the Totems for hooking at 12:33.

The second period remained scoreless, with both teams putting forth a defensive effort. Ouellet of the Sabers incurred a tripping penalty at 3:25, while Welham faced a cross-checking penalty just before the period's close at 19:58.

The third period saw a burst of action, as Litzinger scored his second goal of the night at 11:06, assisted by Verstegen and Gradin, extending the Sabers' lead. The Totems answered back with a goal by Morris at 12:25, assisted by Wolynec and Kazikiewicz. However, the Sabers sealed the deal with an empty-net goal by Litzinger at 19:39, assisted by Ouellet and Paganini. The Totems faced penalties in the final minutes, with Konopka and Rettell each receiving penalties for tripping and cross-checking, respectively, and Wolynec earning a major penalty for slashing at 20:00.

In terms of shots on goal, the Sabers exhibited accuracy with a total of 33 shots, while the Totems closely followed with 35 shots. Despite numerous power play opportunities for both teams, neither side capitalized on the advantage.

Goaltenders played a crucial role in the outcome, with Sabers' netminder Vedernikov making an impressive 34 saves out of 35 shots, while Widgington of the Totems stopped 29 of the 32 shots he faced.

The Sabers' stellar performance in Las Vegas sends a strong message to the Pacific Division, solidifying their position as a force to be reckoned with. As they head back to San Diego with a perfect 4-0 record from the showcase, the Sabers are undoubtedly a team on the rise.
