Oct. 23 Final - Sabers 2, Lakers 6

In a game that got away from them, the San Diego Sabers suffered a 6-2 defeat against the Lake Tahoe Lakers. Despite early chances and power-play goals, the Sabers could not keep pace with the Lakers' attack.

The game opened with the Lakers scoring the first goal, setting a precedent for the next 60 minutes. Quickly responding to the Laker's first goal, Sabers forward #94 Sam Bailey scored a goal with assists from #4 Aidan Cosgrove and #6 Knut Hornkvist. Despite the Sabers trying to break their momentum here, the Lakers managed to score two more goals, bringing the game to 3-1 before the intermission.

Hoping to close the gap in the second, the Sabers found themselves unable to solve the Laker’s defense. Early into the period, the Lakers extended their lead to 4-1. The Sabers did respond with a goal from #6 Knut Hornkvist, assisted by #4 Aidan Cosgrove and #11 Liam Krupcyznski, cutting the lead to 4-2.

Entering the final period and down two, the Sabers needed a spark, but the Lakers controlled the pace of the game. A fifth goal for the Lakers early in the third sealed the win, and a sixth goal from the Lakers cemented the 6-2 victory. The game ended with 50 shots on goal from the Lakers and 28 from the Sabers.

Despite a resilient game, the Sabers found themselves on the back foot for most of it. The Sabers next play on Friday, October 25th, against the Ventura Vikings at the Iceoplex Simi Valley at 7:30 p.m., followed by a game on October 26th on home ice against the Long Beach Bombers at Carlsbad Icetown at 8:00 p.m.
