The San Diego Sabers are excited to announce Long Beach native Nickolas Perez as Head Coach moving into the 2023-2024 USPHL season.

“Hockey has been a wonderful experience and a significant influence in my life,” said Head Coach Nick Perez. “I'm confident that this opportunity will let me impart my expertise to the upcoming generation of hockey players as they work to develop their careers.”

Nick Perez, a hockey coach with over 26 years of experience, began his career with the Norwalk Knights before traveling to St. Louis to play for the St. Louis Selects and later the Rocky Mountains in Denver, Colorado.

Coach Perez played hockey for the Surrey Eagles in the BCHL for a while before continuing his career with the Beaver Valley NiteHawks in the KIJHL of British Columbia. While there, Nick was named assistant captain and contributed to the team's league-winning season.

Nick soon received a hockey scholarship from Adrian College in Michigan. While there, he helped the team advance twice to the ACHA National Championships.

After graduating from college, Coach Perez returned to California and began working as an assistant coach with the California Wave 18AA. Recently, Coach Perez has served as an assistant coach with the Long Beach Shredders in the USPHL’s Pacific Division for the past two seasons.

“The San Diego Sabers had an impressive 2022–2023 season, and we believe Nick Perez can help us continue building the program as we head into the upcoming season,” said Sabers General Manager Domenick DiCicco. “We believe that Nick's Southern California roots will be an asset during the recruiting process, and we will rely on his expertise in collegiate hockey to help players advance their careers.”
